About the Role

About the company

We are a fast-growing, digitally native color cosmetics company based in the United States. We sell direct-to-consumer and through major national retailers. We're looking for a seasoned, fully independent Controller to own our accounting function and manage AR/AP coordinators remotely.

About the role

This is a hands-on, senior role. You will own the entire accounting function end to end — with no one above you in finance. You must run the books independently, close accurately and on time, and communicate directly with US-based ownership. This is not a support seat; it is the top of the finance function.

Key responsibilities

● Own the full monthly and quarterly close, independently and on schedule ● Prepare financial statements and management reporting under US GAAP ● Manage cash flow, AP/AR, and inventory accounting (COGS, landed cost, reconciliation) ● Maintain general ledger integrity and internal controls ● Supervise an AP/AR Coordinator ● Build, clean up, and improve accounting processes and reporting systems ● Coordinate with US-based external partners (tax, audit, banking) ● Report financials and insights directly to ownership

Onboarding KPIs (how success is measured)

First 30 days: ● Fully learn our chart of accounts, ERP, and existing close process ● Take ownership of the general ledger and reconciliations ● Identify gaps or weaknesses in current accounting processes

By 60 days: ● Independently own and complete the full monthly close within [X] business days of month-end ● Deliver an accurate, on-time monthly financial reporting package ● Implement at least one process improvement or cleanup

By 90 days: ● Run the entire accounting function independently with no oversight needed ● Close consistently on schedule with zero material post-close adjustments ● Provide ownership with clear, reliable monthly financials and insights ● Effectively supervise the AP/AR Coordinator

Requirements

● Proven experience as a Controller (must have already held the title) ● Strong, current US GAAP knowledge applied daily ● Prior experience working with or for US-based companies ● Experience running an accounting function independently ● Inventory-based accounting experience (consumer products/retail a plus) ● ERP proficiency /Quickbooks required ● Excellent written and spoken English

Must-Have Skills

  • Non-negotiables (candidates must meet ALL of these):
  • 1. Fluent English — written and spoken
  • 2. Strong US GAAP knowledge and fluency
  • 3. Must work full US Pacific Standard Time (PST) business hours
  • 4. Prior experience working with US-based companies
  • 5. Must operate fully independently — no CFO or finance lead above them
  • 6. Must have already held a Controller title

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with retail or direct-to-consumer accounting, multi-location inventory management, process automation, and familiarity with modern ERP systems.

Tools & Tech Stack

  • ERP systems proficiency (specific platforms will depend on candidate history), general ledger management, financial reporting software, and cash management tools.
