About the Role
Assistant Controller Overview
The Assistant Controller plays a critical supporting role within the Finance & Accounting team, reporting directly to the Controller. This position is responsible for assisting in the execution of month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting, and supporting the development and maintenance of internal controls across multiple global entities.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, self-directed accounting professional with experience in multi-entity environments, particularly within DTC, e-commerce, or consumer goods businesses. This role requires someone who can operate independently across time zones and drive close processes forward with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Close
- Support the execution of monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across multiple global entities (US, UK, AUS, EU, CA)
- Prepare consolidated financial statements, including:
Intercompany eliminations Foreign currency translation Markup eliminations
- Prepare and post journal entries and perform account reconciliations
- Conduct variance (flux) analysis across all entities
- Compile monthly management reporting packages with clear variance commentary
- Research and document accounting treatment for non-routine transactions under US GAAP
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Assist in designing, documenting, and maintaining internal controls over financial reporting
- Prepare audit schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for external audits
- Support compliance with sales tax, VAT, and other regulatory requirements across jurisdictions
Operational Support & Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve close timelines, automate workflows, and reduce manual processes
- Provide guidance and review support for junior accounting staff
- Partner with FP&A, Operations, and cross-functional teams on financial analysis and reporting needs
- Support ERP optimization and implementation of new tools, including AI-driven automation solutions
Required Qualifications:
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- CPA designation strongly preferred
- MBA or Master’s in Accounting is a plus
Experience
- 7–10+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Proven ability to operate as a strong second-in-command to a Controller or senior finance leader
- Deep knowledge of US GAAP
- Hands-on experience with:
Multi-entity consolidations Intercompany accounting Foreign currency translation
- Experience executing full-cycle close processes with tight deadlines
- Experience supporting external audits and preparing audit workpapers
- Advanced Excel skills and strong proficiency with ERP systems
Preferred Experience
- Background in public accounting (Big 4 or national firm)
- Experience in high-growth DTC, e-commerce, or consumer goods companies
- Familiarity with inventory and cost accounting in multi-warehouse and 3PL environments
- Exposure to AI-driven tools in accounting and finance
- Experience working in globally distributed teams across multiple time zones
Must-Have Skills
- Strong working knowledge of US GAAP with ability to handle non-routine transactions
- Hands-on experience with multi-entity accounting, including consolidations, intercompany eliminations, and foreign currency translation
- Proven ownership of full-cycle month-end close (journal entries, reconciliations, variance/flux analysis)
- 7–10+ years of progressive accounting experience in increasingly senior roles
- Advanced proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle) and Excel (pivots, lookups, large data sets)
- Experience preparing audit schedules and supporting external audits
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and manage deadlines across global time zones
Nice-to-Have
- CPA designation (or actively pursuing)
- Background in public accounting (Big 4 or national firm), especially audit
- Experience in DTC, e-commerce, or consumer goods companies
- Exposure to inventory and cost accounting, including multi-warehouse and 3PL environments

- Experience supporting or partnering with FP&A teams (budgeting, forecasting, variance insights)

- Familiarity with AI-driven tools in finance/accounting
