About the Role
Overview: The Retail & Inventory Analyst is an integral part of the Wholesale ecosystem to own the sell-in, sell-through, and inventory analytics that power commercial decisions across Ulta, Nordstrom, Bluemercury, and our broader account portfolio. Reporting to the Senior Director of Sales, you’ll translate raw retailer POS and inventory data into clear performance narratives, bottoms-up plans, and ROI insights for Sales, Planning, and Leadership. This is a high-ownership, analytics-first role for someone who lives in Power BI and Excel, obsesses over data integrity, and is energized by turning numbers into recommendations - not just reports. This role owns the analytical foundation and recommendations that support retailer-facing teams, but does not directly manage retailer communication or account execution. Key Responsibilities:
Sell-Through Reporting & Inventory Analytics • Own SKU x Door x Week sell-through reporting across Ulta, Nordstrom, Bluemercury, and All Other accounts • Build and maintain drill-down Power BI views at the SKU, door, retailer, and channel level • Own weekly door-level replenishment and in-stock reporting; surface OOS risks, slow movers, and assortment gaps • Build productivity views that identify low-productivity doors and SKUs with insights into optimization opportunities • Translate retailer POS and inventory data into clear weekly, monthly, and quarterly performance narratives for Sales and Leadership.
Bottom’s-Up Planning & Forecasting • Build and maintain Bottom’s-Up SKU x Retailer x Week plans across all key accounts, updating for NPD, assortment changes, promotions, and reforecasts • Build Sell-Through x Door x Week views that tie actuals to plan and enable reforecasting • Partner with the Sr. Director of Sales on Sales x Door x Week planning, scenario modeling, and JBP/MBP narratives • Support NPD/LTO sell-in and sell-through reporting in partnership with Demand Planning.
ROI, Spend & Promotional Analysis • Lead ROI analysis of trade spend and promotional programs (tentpoles, GWP, sampling, markdowns) and recommend where to lean in or pull back • Build the analytical framework tying investment to incremental sell-through, distribution, and revenue • Own data integrity behind D&R tracking (testers, damages, RTV/DIF, markdowns) • Quantify Field Sales and Education impact by connecting field activity to door level sell-through outcomes.
Business Review & Cross-Functional Support • Arm Account Managers and leadership with the analytical foundation for Weekly Key Account Business Reviews and Weekly Leadership Reviews • Provide retailer-specific analysis for JBP/MBP prep, market meetings, board decks, and retailer margin work • Serve as data steward for third-party competitive sources (Daash, YipIt) and lead ad-hoc competitive deep dives • Partner with Demand Planning, Finance, Marketing, and Sales Operations to keep data, forecasts, and plans aligned • Maintain wholesale data “sources of truth” and drive continuous improvement of reporting tools, templates, and automation
Must-Have Skills
- 6+ years of experience in retail analytics, sales operations, wholesale planning, or
- merchant/retailer analytics
- Expert Power BI: build SKU- and door-level drill-down reports, manage data sources and refresh logic, troubleshoot independently
- Expert Excel/ Google Sheets: pivot tables, advanced formulas (XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, SUMIFS), PowerQuery, and bottom’s-up build construction
- Demonstrated experience with retailer sales and inventory data, and a working
- understanding of sell-in vs. sell-through, replenishment logic, and door-level analytics
- Strong grasp of inventory health metrics (weeks of supply, in-stock %, OTB) and how they intersect with commercial planning
- Proven ability to translate data into clear, actionable recommendations - not just deliver reports
- Exceptional attention to detail and data integrity discipline
- Proficient in Google Workspace (Sheets, Slides, Drive, Gmail)
- Strong written and spoken English; able to collaborate fluidly with a U.S.-based team in real time
- Able to work with significant overlap to U.S. CST/EST business hours
- Self-starter who operates independently and brings forward recommendations, not just questions
Nice-to-Have
- Beauty, personal care, or CPG industry experience
- Direct experience with Ulta, Sephora, Nordstrom/Bluemercury, or similar retailer data or portals
- DAX and/or SQL proficiency
- Experience with third-party retail data tools (Daash, YipIt, or similar)
- Experience supporting forecasting, JBP/MBP, and promotional/trade spend ROI work
- Experience using AI tools (e.g., Claude) as a quality-control layer to validate logic and stress-test analyses
- Experience in a fast-moving, growth-stage environment
